Racing against a stellar crop, Major Secret excelled from the beginning. He was runner up in the Gr.2 $54,000 SA Southern Cross 2 y.o. final in only his second start, before taking out his heat and the final of the Gr.1 $100,000 2 y.o. Vicbred over Hector Jay Jay (1:50.5 $1.15m) and Messini (1:54.2 $711k) and finishing with a win in a heat of the Australasian Breeders Crown.
Backing up at three, he won one of the greatest NSW Derbies in a then World Record over Bit Of Bling (1:50.8 $1.67m), Isaiah (1:54.6 $587k) and Major Crocker (1:50.2 $685k). Incredibly, only three starters in that race completed their career with less than $300 000 in stake earnings. Competing against the best, he won another Vicbred heat and was placed in heats of both Victorian and NSW Derbies from only eight starts in the age group.
Easily handling the rise to open company, Major Secret went on to win the Vic Italian Cup, Gr.2 Tasmanian Cup, Gr.2 Horsham Cup, Launceston Cup, Gr.3 Mildura Cup and Central Vic Pacers Championship, along with placings in the Gr.3 Popular Alm FFA, Gr.3 Cobram Cup, Gr.3 Yarra Valley Cup, Eastern Challenge Final (listed) and Sokyola FFA.
