About  Us.

Our History.

Since its official beginning as a standardbred breeding stud in 1952, Allenby Lodge has occupied three locations, as land development has seen the operation move further from the metro area. A humble start on the then Day's Road (now dwarfed by the South Rd. Superway) progressed to land on Bolivar Road (now the suburb of Settlers Farm) and to the current and permanent location at Kapunda. The home farm was purchased in late 1972 by C.H. "Bob" Norman and stud farm operations shifted there in 1974. In the ensuing years, Allenby Lodge was responsible for pumping out literally thousands of race winners and numerous star performers in the harness racing sport under the management of Bob's son and daughter in law Hughie and Lorraine, cementing an already strong reputation Australia wide.

The difficulties faced by racing codes in South Australia with regard to matching stakemoney in the Eastern states had led to the cessation of physically standing stallions on the property, until the acquisition of the royally Bred Major Secret. Managed now by a third generation in Stephen Norman, with wife Teresa, the property is still very much focussed on equine enterprise. Allenby Lodge now offers breeding services via artificial insemination from stallions all over Australia and New Zealand, along with on farm agistment and foaling down, thereby fully utilising the extensive equine infrastructure built up over many years. The story of Allenby Lodge Stud is still being written....
